Natural Resources Defense Council

A new logo, creative direction, and visuals for the first US national environmental advocacy group focused on legal action.

About the project
For The One Show 2007, I designed a new logo for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), capturing themes of clean water and a thriving natural environment. With a modern, simplified approach, the mark was crafted to be both iconic and versatile, distilling complex ideas into a form that is adaptable across various contexts. The project earned a Merit Award in design and was featured in I Am In This Book. The logo was later expanded into a cohesive identity system, giving NRDC a recognizable and flexible visual presence across print, merchandise, environmental graphics, and digital platforms.

"The logo—a water form with a tree in its negative space—captures the balance between essential natural elements. Its simplicity anchored a bold, contemporary visual system that delivered clarity, cohesion, and impact across all brand expressions."

"The dotted halftone patterns evoke fading photographs, symbolizing a disappearing natural world under threat from climate change. This visual treatment reinforces the urgency of NRDC’s mission, reminding viewers that what feels distant and abstract is already vanishing before our eyes."
